The Icelandic Business Forum (IBF), an informal forerunner to the eventual establishment of an Icelandic Chamber of Commerce in China, was initiated and is operated by the Icelandic Embassy in Beijing. The Icelandic Business Forums goal is to bring together all Icelandic companies in China along with companies and individuals interested in Iceland-China business and trade. Its purpose is to serve the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

The first Icelandic Business Forum (IBF) meeting took place in Beijing on 8 June 2007. The current IBF Board members are Össur (Chairman), IS Seafood (Vice-Chairman), Eimskip, Icelandair, and the Icelandic Embassy. Mr. Petur Yang Li, Trade Representative of the Icelandic Embassy continues to act as IBF Secretary General and a Board member.

Since the establishment of IBF, various activities have been organized to facilitate and strengthen the communications and contacts between members and relevant Chinese companies and business associations. Icelandic Business Forum will always provide operational support to Icelandic companies in China and make more contribution to further developing the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

Following the devastating Earthquake in Sichuan in 2008, IBF members made a group donation for building a Binghua Hope Primary School in Huidong County, Liangshan Prefecture of Sichuan Province, in cooperation with China Youth Development Foundation. The Binghua Hope Fund has also been set up to give continuous support to the School, after the two-floor new teaching building was put in use in early 2010.
